Honeywell has introduced Protonium, an innovative suite of technologies that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to enhance the efficiency and scalability of green hydrogen production. This system aims to tackle prevalent issues in hydrogen production, including high costs, energy management, and operational inefficiencies.

The inaugural implementation of Protonium will occur at Aternium's upcoming Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2). Aternium, a hydrogen producer based in the United States, is among the recipients of a U.S. Department of Energy grant aimed at supporting regional hydrogen hubs. The company has stated that the choice to adopt Protonium was influenced by the system's capability to fulfill operational and safety requirements.

"Our selection of the Honeywell Protonium portfolio for our planned Mid-Atlantic sites was a strategic decision to ensure we operate with the highest efficiency and safety standards," said Andrew Cottone, CEO and Founder of Aternium. "Honeywell's proven expertise and innovative solutions will be instrumental in helping us achieve our mission of producing clean hydrogen with an exceptional commitment to safety while adding value for our communities and investors."

It was stated by Honeywell representatives that the technology in AI applications and AI infrastructure is part of a broader effort to improve the commercial viability of green hydrogen and to support the shift toward cleaner energy sources.
